Legion Riders

The American Legion, Inc., is a federally chartered veterans’ organization formed in Paris on March 16, 1919, by members of the American Expeditionary Forces.
American Legion Riders chapters are well known for their charitable work, which has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local children’s hospitals, schools, veterans homes, severely wounded servicemembers and scholarships. Since 2006, Riders nationwide have participated in the Legion Legacy Run, to annually raise money for the Legacy Scholarship Fund, established to provide scholarships to children of U.S. military personnel killed since Sept. 11, 2001. In Garden City, Mich., in 1993, Chuck “Tramp” Dare and Bill “Polka” Kaledas, commander of American Legion Post 396, shared an idea to start a motorcycle enthusiasts association within the organization. Out of that idea the American Legion Riders was formed. Currently, 106,000 American Legion Riders meet in over a thousand chapters in every domestic department and in at least three foreign countries. In New Ulm the Legion Riders began in 2010 when a handful of motorcycle enthusiast established the Seifert-Bianchi Post 132 Chapter of the American Legion Riders. We have grown to include 36 current members. We participate in local events such as parades, 5K/10K Run Walks and the Liam Kelly Motivational March. We work to raise funds so we can give financial support to we can assist local Veterans in need, support our local Post 132 and, in 2016, we donated $1,776.35 to the American Legion Legacy Fund, a fund set up to offer scholarships to the children who lost a parent in service to our country since 9/11/2001. We have also made a sizable contribution to the Luverne Veteran’s Home.
